Do the Solfeggio Frequencies Fit Into Christian Life? Part 3

By September 8, 2025No Comments

For centuries, music has been linked with both worship and healing. The Solfeggio frequencies in Christianity are a set of tones that were reintroduced to modern audiences in the 1970s after being connected to ancient Gregorian chants and hymns. Dr. Len Horowitz and Dr. Joseph Puleo were among the first to connect these frequencies, and did so in their book, Healing Codes for the Biological Apocalypse.

Originally, there were six frequencies: 396 Hz, 417 Hz, 528 Hz, 639 Hz, 741 Hz, and 852 Hz. Later, some teachers added 963 Hz while others proposed nine total frequencies by including 174 Hz and 285 Hz.

Interestingly, 444 Hz is found in Michael Tyrrell’s Whole Tones set. 444 Hz is not a healing frequency in itself. It’s the foundation tuning that gives Whole Tones its unique sound.

During Tyrell’s work on the Healing Frequency Music Project, he named 444 Hz as the “Key of David” because this is the frequency used as the tuning standard for music with Solfeggio frequencies. By shifting that reference pitch slightly higher from the pitch of modern music tuning where A = 440 Hz to A = 444 Hz, every note in the scale moves up just a bit. The result is that 444 Hz tuning makes music feel more alive and more peaceful.

Discrepancies About the Solfeggio Sound Scale

While reading other articles online, you’ll sometimes see the “classic Solfeggio scale” of seven tones. These usually leave out 174 Hz and 285 Hz because they were not ones the monks used in the past. Others commonly use all nine frequencies.

As a Christian, the key is never the number of frequencies in a scale that counts. What matters most is reminding yourself that sound belongs to God. Scripture tells us that God created the world through His voice, and throughout the Bible, music has been part of worship, healing, and deliverance. When approached with discernment, these tones can serve as another way to quiet our hearts for prayer, drawing us nearer to His presence.

The following chart shows each of the three additional Solfeggio frequencies with themes from scripture. These verses are not direct references to sound or frequencies but serve as reminders of God’s promises that align with the emotional or restorative themes often associated with these tones.

Sofeggio Frequencies and Biblical Themes: Verses for Reflection

FrequencyEffects on the EmotionsEffects on the BodyScripture
174 Hz – Pain relief, stress controlMay help reduce stress and tension.Believed to relieve pain in the back, legs, and feet. May enhance concentration and relieve headaches.“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” – Psalm 4:8
285 Hz – Restoration of the skinMay promote feelings of security and safety.May assist in healing skin ailments such as cuts, burns, and lacerations and improve immunity.“But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds, declares the Lord.” – Jeremiah 30:17
963 Hz – called “the God frequency”Many say that this frequency awakens their intuition. Others report it quiets the nervous system.Credited to pineal gland activation and guide people toward a deeper awareness of God’s presence and His eternal light“The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.”  – Hebrews 1:3

For additional information on previously reported frequencies, see Part 1 and Part 2 of this article.

Note: The scriptures listed here are not “proof-texts” about frequencies. Instead, they reflect biblical themes that the Holy Spirit may apply to our lives in different seasons. The frequencies may provide a quiet backdrop for prayer or reflection, but true peace, restoration, and awakening come from God Himself.

174 Hz – The Healing Frequency for Pain Relief and Rest

174 Hz has been associated with less pain in the lower part of the body, especially the back, leg, and feet as well as reducing stress, headaches and the feeling of tension from sound healing practitioners. Although practitioners are in the trenches observing these effects on a daily basis, to date, there are few studies on this frequency.

However, when the 528 Hz tone was used in rats exposed to 100 dB sounds that cause stress in the body, a reduction in anxiety-like behaviors which is equivalent to stress, resulted. And in 2024, humans listening to the same frequency while reading a book were found to have significantly less anxiety scores than without the frequency.

Christian sound healing practices remind us that music has long been a balm for weary souls. Scripture affirms that “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3). Is it possible that one of His mysterious ways to do this is through sound? Only you can find out for yourself by listening to the frequency.

Try playing 174 Hz softly while journaling through Psalm 147:3. See if it aids your prayer life while resting, especially during times when you have a headache or pain in the lower part of your body. It’s possible that this frequency could increase the true comfort that only flows from Him.

285 Hz – The Restorative Frequency of Renewal

285 Hz is often associated with renewal and repair. Sound therapists see it promoting tissue healing, regeneration, and a sense of safety in their clients and a lot of anecdotal cases can be found online.

This frequency, like 174 Hz, does not have scientific studies proving a direct cause-and-effect link to physical healing. Like all the Solfeggio tones, it does offer us an atmosphere, a kind of sacred backdrop, where our hearts can become more receptive to God’s work. This is similar to how Christians use prayer music for healing and restoration.

When you enter a church and sit down in the pews, the lighting, quietness, and music all help prepare you to meet with God. The cause of the healing is never the light, quietness, or the music but these things are helping you position your heart to receive what He has already promised. In the same way, listening to 285 Hz while praying can quiet distractions, relax your, and allows you to focus on God’s Word of restoration.

Scripture assures us of His intention in Jeremiah 30:17, “But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds, declares the Lord.” Sometimes the restoration comes in an instant through divine intervention. Other times, it unfolds gradually as we continue in faith and prayer. Either way, the frequency is not the healer; God is.

Try listening to 285 Hz during intercessory prayer for someone needing healing or when  receiving prayer yourself. What the tone can do is help us prepare by creating an atmosphere that makes anxiety and tension loosen their grips on our body and mind. It can encourage us to prayer where we have time to reflect on renewal and healing. It can also put us in the mind frame of waiting for God to work out the details of that healing, and do it with expectancy.

The tone doesn’t carry healing power. However, if we are in the proper “mood” and “mode”, we won’t reject God’s restoring presence.

963 Hz – The “God Frequency” and Spiritual Awakening

Does God Have a Frequency?

In one sense, no. God is beyond creation. He is the Maker of frequencies, light, sound, and energy. To say “God has a frequency” would limit Him to the physical laws He Himself designed. “God is spirit” (John 4:24), which means He is not bound by the vibrations and physics of matter.

But in another sense, yes because all of creation carries the imprint of His voice. The Bible opens with God speaking the world into being. That act of speaking implies vibration, resonance, and sound. Psalm 29 describes the “voice of the Lord” thundering, breaking cedars, and shaking the desert. His Word is not just communication; it is powerful, resonant energy that sustains life (Hebrews 1:3).

So while we cannot say God is “a frequency,” we can say that His presence resonates through creation, and all frequencies ultimately exist within Him.

If Emotions Have a Frequency, Why Not God?

Science has shown that human emotions can be measured in terms of frequency. For example, love and gratitude produce higher vibrational states in the body, while fear and anger produce lower ones. This doesn’t mean love is only a frequency, but it shows that our inner state affects us physically.

If the human heart and mind can register measurable frequencies tied to emotions, it isn’t a stretch to say that God, who is love itself (1 John 4:8), radiates a presence that is infinitely higher than any measurable vibration. The “God frequency” in this sense is less about hertz on a scale and more about the limitless resonance of His being that touches every part of creation.

Christian Reframing of the “God Frequency” (963 Hz)

Christians would never say that 963 Hz is God but this tone may remind us of spiritual awakening through Christain meditation and prayer, helping us tune our hearts to notice Him more fully.

Yes, worship music can soften our hearts to the Spirit, and a frequency can create an environment of focus. But the Spirit of God Himself is the true awakener.

It’s similar to a church bell. The bell doesn’t cause worship, but it calls us to it. 963 Hz can serve the same symbolic role and a call to wake up spiritually (Ephesians 5:14).

Reflection on These Tones

The benefits I’ve personally received by using these tones has been outstanding in my opinion. I’m still experimenting with these additional tones, which weren’t in the Whole Tones CD set. The way I’m doing it is by using the Music Re-Tuner browser extension that can be applied to the music I listen to on Youtube. After activating the Re-Tuner, I select my usual songs and then select what frequency I want to listen to the songs in. It’s really that simple. For more info, go to http://www.musicretuner.com
